Trauma isn't only what happened to you - it's what your body and mind learned in order to get through it. Those lessons kept you safe once, and they can be gently unlearned.
None of these need to be true for you to get in touch. If something feels off, that is reason enough.
Trauma can follow a single frightening event - an accident, an assault, a birth, a medical emergency, a sudden loss. It can also build slowly over years, through childhood experiences, ongoing fear, or relationships where you were not safe to be yourself. Both are real, and both respond to treatment.
We start slowly. Before we go anywhere near the difficult material, we spend time understanding your history, what your symptoms are doing for you, and what helps you feel steady. You will always know what we are doing and why, and you can stop or change direction at any point. Nothing moves faster than you want it to.
From there, the work depends on what you need. For some people that means learning to settle a nervous system that has been running hot for years. For others it means processing specific memories so they lose their charge, often with EMDR. For many it is both, alongside making sense of how the experience shaped the way you see yourself and other people.
You do not need to tell me everything, and you do not need to relive it in detail for therapy to work. What matters most is that you feel safe enough to begin.
